A New Look

I rarely ever do this, but instead of writing a post today, I decided to redesign my website.

If you read my blog in WordPress Reader, you may not have seen how it used to look, but now it is very different, with all new colors, pages, and options. It looks better on a computer or tablet than a phone, but still fine.

Good News

Yesterday I got my second COVID vaccine! I’m glad that it seems we’re finally coming out of this.

On the negative side, I had chills today and my teeth REALLY hurt. I spent most of the day doing nothing (the post I published today, I had scheduled a few days ago). It’s worth it, though, for contributing to the pandemic’s end, and the side effects will probably (I hope!) be gone by tomorrow.

Hopefully, the vaccines are approved for ages 12 and under soon. It’ll be so weird not wearing masks around people, but if there’s one thing we learned from these years, it’s that change is important, and so is the ability to adapt to it.

Tiny Tale Thursday

Update

Because I am a sucker for alliteration, Tiny Tales is now becoming Tiny Tale Thursday (by the way, I spent a looong time trying to find a good synonym for ‘bundle’ that started with T, but eventually I gave up :P).

So from now on (and until decided otherwise by me), you can expect them to come sometime each Thursday.

Taking a Break From CTS

As you may know, I post a Complete the Story story every Tuesday and Friday. But I haven’t been the last week or two — frankly, I’ve gotten a little bored of them and moved on to Tiny Tales.

The other day I discovered an awesome word called vignette. It is the word I am looking for that describes my favorite kind of writing better than ‘short story’ (although that works too). The Tiny Tales suit this very well, I think, and I think that’s why I’m enjoying them.

Point is, I’m going to take a break from Complete the Story. I don’t know how long. Probably at least a month, maybe for the rest of the summer. Maybe even longer. Well, it’s not so much of a break, more of an ‘unscheduled’ thing, so I don’t have to post a CTS twice a week. Instead, I can do it whenever I want.

The Midwest Baker is Live!

Important announcement!

A few weeks ago, I helped my friend (theclevercookie3) get started on WordPress. She spent a little while customizing her site, and she just launched it! It is a baking blog, so it isn’t really related to Words on Key, but if you are interested, please check it out!

NaNoWriMo’s Young Writers Flash Fiction Contest

Earlier today, I submitted my flash fiction piece for NaNoWriMo’s Young Writers Flash Fiction Contest. Apparently, May is Short Story Month… perhaps I’ll have to do something to celebrate. Might have been better to do it on May 1, but maybe it’ll be on May 31. Anyway, the guidelines were: up to 300 words and must include the words cake, rainbow, and spider. I’m not going to publish the story yet, but I will when the contest is over. It is probably too late to compete (deadline for submissions is May 31) but you can find the information page here. Complete the Story Update

The novel coronavirus is, obviously, affecting everyone in one way or another. For me, school has just been officially closed for the rest of the year. There are some things that I was looking forward to that I’ll miss. For example, I qualified for a state competition in an extracurricular activity, and a two-night stay in another part of my state had been scheduled for it this Thursday through Saturday, and I was really looking forward to that. But I also realize that I am so much luckier than so many other people, with the fact that I have a safe home big enough to accommodate us, and a yard, and the privilege to still be able to go for quick walks, and a lot more. Getting to the point: I’m still adjusting to online school, and getting ready to handle it for the rest of the year, and I’ve been kind of busy. If you have noticed, I’ve missed more days of my “daily” Complete the Stories recently, so from now on, I’m just going to do it every other day, starting next week, to give myself a few more days to catch up because this is a busy week for me. I hope everyone has a good and healthy spring.
