Three Line Tales 262 – Road

The thunder echoed across the barren land, a monstrous gray cloud loomed overhead.

She squinted out the car window at the woman, who kept her foot slammed on the gas pedal and screamed through the rain, “We’re in this together!”

She nodded in agreement before turning back to the road cracked and worn by lightning and muttered, “That’s what you think.”

“Look Mama, that guy is floating!”

“Hush, Clara, don’t speak such nonsense or else everyone will think we are the ‘odd family,’ and we don’t want that, do we? No, we do not,” her mother asked and answered her own question, holding Clara’s hand and whispering in her ear.

Clara risked a final glance behind her and saw the man wink at her just before his feet casually touched the ground.
